XGN- Beyond: Two Souls Review

XGN:Nothing less than a masterpiece. The game looks absolutely phenomenal and Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe deliver a great accomplishment with their acting. Writer David Cage grabs us with his compelling and emotional story. There are a few downsides, gameplay is pretty much the same as Heavy Rain, but that doesnt spoil the greatness of this game.

Wayne is playing Beyond: Two Souls right now for his review and he can tell you right now that he is enjoying the game. But he is noticing one thing thats been more prominent in my head as games like The Walking Dead lumbered onto the scene and made everyone take more notice of adventure games. he is getting more and more convinced that this kind of game, just like television, needs a separated, episodic structure.

Sure, perhaps it blurs the line between games and film but its certainly still an interactive experience, a feature that's key to it being considered a video game.

Bracken Lee-Rudolph from ITF Gaming writes: The Quantic Dream team is one renowned for its work on Heavy Rain. Released in 2010, the title challenged the perceptions of what a video game could be and how a narratively fueled piece of interactive media could still succeed in the industry. Although the title was criticised for certain plot holes, it still left a good impression on the market which has been one of the causes of the hype for Beyond: Two Souls. So does the title live up to its developers reputation? Or is it another new idea which will crash and burn in an industry permeated by repetitive sequels? Beyond: Two Souls is perhaps the definition of a flawed gem.

CCC Says: "I'm dealing with some major guilt right now, and I need to talk about it. However, it also involves some Beyond: Two Souls spoilers, so I want you to be ready. I'm going to try and be as vague as possible, but I also want this to be a cautionary tale. I made a mistake, but you don't have to. You all have the power to save a life, and you deserve to know it."
